A Data-Based, Scientific Approach to Education
At NYCLI instructors work with families and school districts to carefully select specific educational goals for each child. Instructors design and implement instructional procedures that reflect current research findings on teaching and treatment methodologies.
Instruction is presented through activity schedules that consist of one-on-one instructional sessions. These sessions are designed to meet the individual needs of each child in areas such as language development, socialization, academics, and independence.
Instructors record and graph child performance data daily. This allows objective evaluation of a child's progress and readiness to move to new areas of skills training. These data also assist the professional staff in developing and modifying teaching strategies.
Family Empowerment
A major emphasis is placed on including parents in the educational process. NYCLI staff work in the home together with parents to develop and implement programs that help integrate the child into the family. Parents receive ongoing assistance and support that promote the transfer of children's newly acquired skills from school to home.
The goal for each child enrolled in the program is to benefit from enriched family life and community involvement and to decrease his or her need for ongoing specialized educational and treatment services.
A Brighter Future
NYCLI helps each student achieve important milestones. Children learn to use language, to play together, to talk to their peers, siblings and parents. They learn to read and write. These accomplishments represent the beginning steps toward competency in critical skill areas including language, social and academic development. We are proud of the successes of the children.
Through continued affiliation with PCDI, and participation in university internship programs, NYCLI provides leadership in the fields of education and treatment for children with autism.
